HDPE Cutting Boards | Custom Size Cutting Boards

HDPE is the material of choice for cutting boards and is offered by Interstate Plastics in a variety of colors.

HDPE Overview

Interstate Plastics is proud to carry High Density Polyethylene (HDPE), a machinable thermoplastic known for its high strength-to-density ratio, long-term durability and light weight. HDPE's toughness and flexibility make it one of the most commonly used plastics in the United States today and a popular choice for cutting boards.

HDPE is a very light and extremely tough, chemically resistant plastic and is one of the most commonly used plastics in the United States. It will not splinter, absorb water, rot or absorb harmful bacteria, and is extremely resistant to cleaning agents. These qualities make it well-suited for cutting boards.

  • Acid, odor, moisture, and mildew resistant
  • Extremely easy to fabricate and machine
  • Weather, impact resistant
  • Environmentally and UV stabilized
  • Excellent resistance to acids, alcohols and bases
  • Excellent long-term durability
  • Thermoformable
  • Good flexibility and toughness
  • Low maintenance
  • Cutting board grade HDPE is FDA approved

How to Clean Cutting Board Plastics

Our HDPE cutting boards are designed to be dishwasher safe - just drop them into your dishwasher and let it do the rest. If you're out of dishwasher space or want to clean your cutting board by hand, there are several other methods to keep your cutting boards clean.

The most commonly recommended cleaning method is a solution of one part bleach and one part water. Wiping your cutting board down with this solution, then rinsing it thoroughly with hot water is an effective method of sanitizing your cutting board surfaces. If you're using a colored cutting board, keep in mind that bleach may lighten the color of the cutting board.

If bleach is not an option, mix one part baking soda, one part salt, and one part water to make a paste. Coat the board with this paste, and let it sit for several minutes. Rinse thoroughly with soap and water. This method lessens or removes any stains on a plastic cutting board's surface. This is particularly useful when trying to clean a natural HDPE cutting board.

Regardless of how sturdy cutting board materials are, at some point they will develop scoring from repeated cuts. When this happens, if you choose to clean your cutting board by hand be sure to use a tool such as a steel scouring pad or bristle brush to make sure you can reach loose food or plastic particles in the grooves. A belt sander or other smoothing apparatus is recommended to smooth out the surface once it is clean.

HDPE Cutting Board Colors

Interstate Plastics offers different colors of cutting boards for all your needs. Colored cutting boards can be used to specify what types of food should be cut on them to avoid cross-contamination.
