As per our Shipping and Returns Policy, custom cuts and fabricated parts are non-returnable. If you need an over- or undersized item, note it under "Comments" during Checkout. Cut-to-size orders have an acceptable cut tolerance of 1/8" (0.125"), so clarify if the adjustment is to be made on the (+) or (-) side of the saw blade. Please review our full return and shipping policy here.
Measure Twice, Cut Once
Since custom cuts and fabricated parts are non-refundable, be very careful while measuring your dimensions. As each cut is nominal, even the slightest miscalculation could be costly.
How to Use a Measuring Tape
Extend your tape measure several inches to find the 1 and 2 inch markers. In between the inch markers you’ll find 16 equally spaced tick marks.
Measure by counting the increments beyond the nearest inch. As the increments decrease, so does the length of the mark. For example, 1/2" has a bigger mark than 1/4" which has a bigger mark than 1/8". The smallest mark follows at 1/16". Please be aware that some measuring tapes may have even smaller increments.
Features of a Measuring Tape: Sliding End Hook
The sliding end hook is designed for two different types of measurements. An outside measurement (where the hook of the tape hangs over an edge), requires the hook to slide out a bit to account for the thickness of the material. When making an inside measurement (where the hook will push up against a surface), the clip slides in, again, accounting for its thickness. The measuring tape self-adjusts to guarantee an accurate measurement (as far as the tape is concerned).
Sanitizing Acrylic and Polycarbonate Sheet [X]
Acrylic and Polycarbonate Sneeze Guards and like products require special care while cleaning and disinfecting. To maintain the optical clarity of sneeze guards and other acrylic or polycarbonate items, use an acrylic or polycarbonate safe cleaner like Novus Plastic Polish #1, Brillianize Plastic Cleaner, or a mild soap solution.
Please reference the following compatible cleaners when DISINFECTING acrylic and polycarbonate items. The use of commonly available commercial alcohol or ammonia-based disinfectants may cause crazing and damage.
Custom-sized 16mm RDC Storm Panels offer tailored window and door defense for residential and commercial structures facing severe weather. By ordering panels pre-cut to your exact dimensions, you streamline the preparation process for active hurricane seasons.
Manufactured as a resilient, lighter-weight substitute for traditional metal shutters or plywood, these multiwall panels are designed to help protect openings like windows and doors from windborne debris while permitting daylight to enter. They are a popular material choice for coastal properties and storm-prone regions.
Important Notice: Due to the custom nature of cut-to-size materials, all sales on custom-cut 16mm storm panels are final. Returns or refunds are not accepted after shipment. For bulk quoting and specialized shipping, contact our sales team at 888-768-5759.
Why Choose Cut-to-Size 16mm Storm Panels?
These specialized multiwall panels are manufactured for rigorous window and door protection and are custom-cut to your specifications. These panels are the correct choice when your project requires:
Miami-Dade NOA Approved System:
Covered under Miami-Dade County NOA 24-0624.02 for 5/8" RDC storm panel shutter applications when installed as approved.
Impact Resistance:
Designed to resist impacts from heavy windborne debris and reduce the risk of glass breakage during severe events.
Severe Wind Tolerance:
Evaluated to endure simulated hurricane-force positive and negative pressure cycles up to 170 MPH.
Daylight Illumination:
Maintains visibility and interior lighting during power outages by allowing natural daylight to penetrate the protective barrier.
Cut-to-Size 16mm RDC vs. Standard Multiwall
While both share a polycarbonate base, their structural ratings differ significantly.
Choose Cut-to-Size 16mm RDC Storm Panels (This Material) if your project requires Miami-Dade compliance and hurricane-level wind mitigation. Ordering them pre-cut reduces on-site fabrication time.
Choose Standard Multiwall Polycarbonate for basic architectural applications, such as patio covers or greenhouses, where approved impact-rated storm protection is not required.
Installation & Handling
Having your panels pre-cut minimizes fabrication time, but proper deployment remains critical. Installers must adhere to the official NOA documentation for correct fastener spacing, substrate conditions, and edge engagement to maintain the approved installation.
Performance ratings depend on approved installation methods, substrate conditions, fastener spacing, panel size, and local code requirements. Always review the current NOA and installation documentation before specifying or installing storm panels.
Watch: What Are Polycarbonate Hurricane Storm Panels?
WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including Bisphenol A, CAS 80-05-7 , which are known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
Handling: Cut sheets may have sharp edges. We recommend wearing protective gloves when unpacking and handling this material to ensure safety.
Suitability: We take pride in the quality of our materials as they leave our facility. However, because every project is unique, we cannot account for how materials are modified, stored, or used after delivery. Please perform the necessary tests to ensure this material is right for your specific application and end-use conditions.
POLCEC SW
Technical Performance
Custom-cut 16mm multiwall polycarbonate storm panels are engineered for demanding structural applications requiring natural light transmission combined with high wind-load tolerance and impact attenuation.
Tested for large missile impact resistance using a 9 lb. 2" x 4" projectile, with the panel protecting the glass behind it during testing.
Wind Load Performance:
Withstood positive and negative structural air pressure cycles simulating continuous winds up to 170 MPH.
Light Transmission:
Provides substantial light transmission while maintaining a protective barrier, reducing the need for artificial interior lighting during severe weather conditions.
Key Properties
Miami-Dade Approved:
Listed under Miami-Dade County NOA 24-0624.02 for high-velocity hurricane zone applications when installed as approved.
Multiwall Geometry:
The internal rib structure provides an exceptional rigidity-to-weight ratio, optimizing structural strength against bending loads.
Weathering Resistance:
Resists UV degradation, helping to reduce the risk of yellowing or brittleness under long-term solar exposure.
Lightweight Design:
Significantly lighter than traditional plywood or metal shutters, reducing structural load and simplifying rapid deployment.
Common Commercial & Residential Applications
Commercial Facility Protection: Severe weather barriers for storefronts, office windows, and entryways in high-velocity hurricane zones.
Residential Storm Shutters: Lightweight, reusable protective panels for residential windows and glass doors during active storm events.
Security & Debris Screening: Protective glazing for facilities requiring high-impact resistance against flying debris or environmental hazards.
Engineering Limitations & Alternatives
While 16mm RDC Storm Panels provide impact-rated storm protection, specific architectural or environmental configurations may require alternative materials:
Structural Rigidity: Polycarbonate multiwall panels retain flexible elasticity to absorb heavy impacts, which may cause slight deflection under heavy static weight. Better Alternative: For structural partitions requiring absolute rigid flatness without deflection, consider solid Polycarbonate.
Optical Transparency: Multiwall ribbed channels diffuse direct light and obstruct clear, undistorted visibility. Better Alternative: For applications requiring optical transparency and clearer, less distorted visibility, choose clear solid Polycarbonate.
Abrasive Environments: Uncoated polycarbonate surfaces are susceptible to scratching if subjected to repeated abrasive cleaning or mechanical surface friction. Better Alternative: For high-abrasion exterior windows in non-storm-specific regions, consider Abrasion-Resistant Polycarbonate.
