As per our Shipping and Returns Policy, custom cuts and fabricated parts are non-returnable. If you need an over- or undersized item, note it under "Comments" during Checkout. Cut-to-size orders have an acceptable cut tolerance of 1/8" (0.125"), so clarify if the adjustment is to be made on the (+) or (-) side of the saw blade. Please review our full return and shipping policy here.
Measure Twice, Cut Once
Since custom cuts and fabricated parts are non-refundable, be very careful while measuring your dimensions. As each cut is nominal, even the slightest miscalculation could be costly.
How to Use a Measuring Tape
Extend your tape measure several inches to find the 1 and 2 inch markers. In between the inch markers you’ll find 16 equally spaced tick marks.
Measure by counting the increments beyond the nearest inch. As the increments decrease, so does the length of the mark. For example, 1/2" has a bigger mark than 1/4" which has a bigger mark than 1/8". The smallest mark follows at 1/16". Please be aware that some measuring tapes may have even smaller increments.
Features of a Measuring Tape: Sliding End Hook
The sliding end hook is designed for two different types of measurements. An outside measurement (where the hook of the tape hangs over an edge), requires the hook to slide out a bit to account for the thickness of the material. When making an inside measurement (where the hook will push up against a surface), the clip slides in, again, accounting for its thickness. The measuring tape self-adjusts to guarantee an accurate measurement (as far as the tape is concerned).
Sanitizing Acrylic and Polycarbonate Sheet [X]
Acrylic and Polycarbonate Sneeze Guards and like products require special care while cleaning and disinfecting. To maintain the optical clarity of sneeze guards and other acrylic or polycarbonate items, use an acrylic or polycarbonate safe cleaner like Novus Plastic Polish #1, Brillianize Plastic Cleaner, or a mild soap solution.
Please reference the following compatible cleaners when DISINFECTING acrylic and polycarbonate items. The use of commonly available commercial alcohol or ammonia-based disinfectants may cause crazing and damage.
Multiwall Polycarbonate for Severe Weather Protection
16mm RDC Storm Panels are engineered from multiwall polycarbonate to provide reliable window and door protection for commercial businesses and homes during severe weather and active hurricane seasons.
Designed as a lightweight yet durable alternative to traditional storm shutters, these panels allow natural light transmission while shielding windows and doors from high winds and flying debris. They are a popular choice for coastal environments and regions with frequent storms.
Important Notice: All sales on twinwall panels are final. No returns or refunds will be accepted once the material ships. For volume orders and custom shipping inquiries, please contact our sales department at 888-768-5759.
Why Choose Hurricane Storm Panels?
This 16mm multiwall polycarbonate storm panel is engineered specifically for storm mitigation and opening protection. Unlike standard corrugated plastic or multiwall options, it has undergone rigorous testing under Miami-Dade County NOA protocols. It is the correct choice if you require:
Miami-Dade County Approved:
Covered under Miami-Dade County NOA 24-0624.02 for 5/8" RDC storm panel shutters in high-velocity hurricane zone applications (when installed as approved).
Large Missile Impact Resistance:
Engineered to absorb and deflect severe impacts from windborne debris to protect the glass behind the panel.
High Wind Load Capacity:
Tested to withstand positive and negative air pressures simulating hurricane-force winds up to 170 MPH.
Natural Light Transmission:
Protects windows and doors while allowing daylight to pass through, reducing the risk of interior blackouts during power outages.
16mm RDC Storm Panels vs. Standard Multiwall Polycarbonate: Which Do You Need?
While both materials utilize polycarbonate engineering, they are rated for different structural demands.
Choose 16mm RDC Storm Panels (This Panel) if Miami-Dade-approved impact performance and hurricane-force wind protection are requirements. These panels are approved for storm-panel use during severe weather events when installed according to the NOA and installation documentation.
Choose Standard Multiwall Polycarbonate if you are building general greenhouses, pergolas, or architectural canopies where approved missile impact performance is not necessary.
Installation & Handling
This lightweight material is designed for practical handling and installation using appropriate job-site tools. When preparing panels, follow the approved installation documentation for panel sizing, hole placement, substrate requirements, fastener type, and fastener spacing to maintain applicable wind and impact performance ratings.
Performance ratings depend on approved installation methods, substrate conditions, fastener spacing, panel size, and local code requirements. Always review the current NOA and installation documentation before specifying or installing storm panels.
Watch: What Are Polycarbonate Hurricane Storm Panels?
WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including Bisphenol A, CAS 80-05-7 , which are known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm. For more information go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
Handling: Cut sheets may have sharp edges. We recommend wearing protective gloves when unpacking and handling this material to ensure safety.
Suitability: We take pride in the quality of our materials as they leave our facility. However, because every project is unique, we cannot account for how materials are modified, stored, or used after delivery. Please perform the necessary tests to ensure this material is right for your specific application and end-use conditions.
POLCECKSW
Technical Performance
16mm multiwall polycarbonate storm panels are engineered for demanding structural applications requiring exceptional impact attenuation, high wind-load tolerance, and natural light transmission.
Passed large missile impact criteria (deflected a 9 lb 2" x 4" missile fired from an air cannon), protecting the glass behind the panel.
Wind Load Performance:
Withstood positive and negative structural air pressure cycles simulating continuous winds up to 170 MPH.
Light Transmission:
Provides substantial light transmission while maintaining a protective barrier, reducing the need for artificial interior lighting during severe weather conditions.
Key Properties
Miami-Dade Approved:
Listed under Miami-Dade County NOA 24-0624.02 for high-velocity hurricane zone applications when installed as approved.
Multiwall Geometry:
The internal rib structure provides an exceptional rigidity-to-weight ratio, optimizing structural strength against bending loads.
Weathering Resistance:
Formulated to resist UV degradation, helping to reduce the risk of yellowing or brittleness under long-term solar exposure.
Lightweight Design:
Significantly lighter than traditional plywood or metal shutters, reducing structural load and simplifying rapid deployment.
Common Commercial & Residential Applications
Commercial Facility Protection: Severe weather barriers for storefronts, office windows, and entryways in high-velocity hurricane zones.
Residential Storm Shutters: Lightweight, reusable protective panels for residential windows and glass doors during active storm events.
Security & Debris Screening: Protective glazing for facilities requiring high-impact resistance against flying debris or environmental hazards.
Engineering Limitations & Alternatives
While 16mm RDC Storm Panels provide exceptional impact safety, specific architectural or environmental configurations may require alternative materials:
Structural Rigidity: Polycarbonate multiwall panels retain flexible elasticity to absorb heavy impacts, which may cause slight deflection under heavy static weight. Better Alternative: For structural partitions requiring absolute rigid flatness without deflection, consider solid Polycarbonate.
Optical Transparency: Multiwall ribbed channels diffuse direct light and obstruct clear, undistorted visibility. Better Alternative: For applications requiring optical transparency and clearer, less distorted visibility, choose clear solid Polycarbonate.
Abrasive Environments: Uncoated polycarbonate surfaces are susceptible to scratching if subjected to repeated abrasive cleaning or mechanical surface friction. Better Alternative: For high-abrasion exterior windows in non-storm-specific regions, consider Abrasion-Resistant Polycarbonate.
